Anna Wentworth
Anna began drawing at the age of 4, when she “illustrated” her mother’s books and part of the bathroom wall. She has drawn and painted off and on all of her life. She received a B.S. in art and English at Radford University, and she has studied with some of the great area artists, including Peyton Klein, Vera Dickerson and Ann Glover.
Due to her interests in theater and storytelling, many of her themes involve capturing people going about their everyday lives; and putting people into a landscape. Telling stories through art is a continual interest. She has illustrated a cookbook and a children’s book and is interested in art as a way of telling stories in a visual way. She also loves to travel and to paint scenes from her travels as a way of remembering the atmosphere of places she has visited.
Anna had a one woman show in which she exhibited 78 paintings at the studios of WVTF Public Radio. She has entered work in the SPCA and CASA shows, and has been involved in several area group shows and collaborative exhibits. Anna served on the Executive Board of the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge for twelve years; and served on the Roanoke Arts Commission for six.
She works in oil, acrylic and watercolor, but primarily in oil. Her influences are Edward Hopper, Eric Fischl, David Hockney, Ann Glover and Vincent Van Gogh.
